National Fire Protection, LLC | Kirlin Company is a fire protection systems contractor capable of performing any type of commercial, industrial, service, residential, and special hazards systems and construction.  With principal offices in Maryland, Florida, South Carolina and Texas, the company offers its leadership in the fire protection systems industry to a broad range of clients.  National Fire Protection now operates in 9 states and internationally.

A project can call for any type of fire protection system, from standard wet and dry sprinkler through large and complex special hazards systems, alarm and detection and suppression in any type of construction environment, from new construction to detail oriented historical renovation, while utilizing any type of contract delivery system, including design-bid-build, fast-track construction, design-assist, and design-build, and NFP has the talent, technical, and financial resources to meet the client's needs. 

NFP is looking for an Fire Protection Operations Executive, a Talented individual with the Passion for Fire Sprinkler Construction, Inspections, and Services to join our Team in Tampa, Florida.  We would love for someone to bring new thoughts and ideas, who loves a challenge, and is driven for growth and SUCCESS! 

The Operations Executive will develop Construction Executives, Construction Managers, Engineering Managers, Project Managers, Project Manager Engineers, Project Engineers and Engineering Technicians at all levels.  Develop new business, plan and carry out policies relating to the management of personnel and construction projects by performing and/or monitoring the duties listed below.  The Operations Executive must have a sound knowledge of the application of fire protection codes and construction techniques.  In addition, the Operations Executive must be able to know the duties required of Construction Executives, Engineering Managers, Project Managers and field supervisors.

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities

  • Leadership:  Develop subordinates for advancement within the Company, using Company policies and procedures.  Actively participate in industry activities professionally representing and promoting the Company.  Empower others to strive to become valued members of the team.
  • New Business Development:  Develop a client base and maintain professional relationships with subcontractors and vendors.  Know how to take off estimates and price labor and material during the bid process; can define the scope of work; and ensure price coverage by vendors.  Participate in the estimating and tendering of proposals and follow through to the award of new projects.
  • Technical Knowledge:  Must make continuous efforts to keep abreast of technological advances in the industry.
  • Build the Job:  Manage projects by ensuring it is properly staffed, that the safety and employee policies are enforced, labor cost is managed and a quality job is finished on time at a reasonable profit.
  • Manage Project Labor:  Working closely with the construction manager, understand and manage cost through use of Company established polices; make reasonable efforts to meet goals for minority and female employees.
  • Project Administration:  Administer, teach and be responsible for the Company's performance on the project including the following duties and responsibilities:
    • Contract Management:  Understand and apply the corporate procedures for the management of the project contract including and thorough knowledge of the contract documents, establishment of the original budget through the completion of the Job Information Sheet, compliance with contract requirements through the performance of the project, adjustment of the project budget due to approved changes and close-out of the contract requirements.
    • Project Start-Up:  Coordinate and review the material and equipment submittals to be in compliance with contract and corporate requirements and review the scope of work and contract requirements including schedule and quality control with the Engineering Department and Labor Department members assigned to the project.  Identify and communicate all questions errors, inconsistencies or omissions with all team members and customers in accordance with Company procedures.  Oversee the project kick-off meeting process.
    • Schedule Management - Ability to read and interpret a project schedule to then develop and manage the fire protection project schedule.  Develop a complete listing of predecessor and successor activities, durations, crew loading and proper sequencing of the fire protection work with the construction of the project.  Able to negotiate the schedule with the customer to assure our best timing for the greatest productivity.  Maintain and update the schedule as the project progresses.  Manage all team members to commit and maintain the schedule in the performance of the project.
    • Purchasing Management:  Develop a scope of work, research and purchase material equipment and services at the best value for the specified product utilizing the corporate approved list of vendors, suppliers and subcontractors.  Establish budgets and negotiate the best deals which meet the contract specifications and remain within the established budgets.  Meet the contractually required EEOC, SBA and DBA goals and requirements.
    • Performance Management:  Continuously through the execution of the project maintain communication with all customer representatives to assure that contract, quality, schedule and budget objectives are being maintained or improved.  Monitor all changes that affect the contracted scope of work, prepare estimates for the modification of cost in accordance with Company policies, prepare proposals that fully explain the changes ins cope and justification for the change, and follow the proposals through the approval process including the possible necessity of negotiations and claim management.
    • Labor Management:  Working closely with the foremen; know, understand and manage labor cost through use of Company established policies.  Track, analyze and verify performance goals are being met by installation crews.  Provide leadership in assuring that the installation crews are provided with a clean and safe workplace, all the necessary tools and equipment, materials, plans and instructions so that they are allowed to be as productive and effective as possible.  Make reasonable efforts to meet goals for minority and female employees.  Shall review the projects with all PMs/PMEs to verify the productivity of the field and engineering labor.
    • Profit and Cash Flow Management:  Establish profit margin and teach the team how to increase profit levels.  Monitor and control costs utilizing Viewpoint software.  Understand and apply procedures to increase or maintain profit levels while ensuring a positive cash flow throughout the term of the project through the preparation of the schedule of values and following the corporate procedures for billing and collecting moneys due.  Monitor the project team cash management, set objectives and teach Project Managers and Project Engineers the proper billing methods.
    • Requisition Processes:  Understand and prepare schedule of values; know procedures for billing, analysis of project cost and cash to maintain the project cash positive and billed in excess of revenue.  Understand the collecting of moneys due and how to achieve it.  Shall review all requisitions prior to release to the general contractor via Viewpoint.
    • Change Order Administration:  Identify, submit, communicate to affected parties and use creativity to promptly settle change orders.  Review all change orders that are over $35,000 in value and must be sent out under the Operations Executive's signature.
    • Project Close-Out:  Close out all project requirements, verifying the submittal of all contractually required documentation, training, testing and commissioning.  Insure punch lists are completed in a timely manner.  Pursue all final open change proposals and claims through the establishment of an acceptable final contract price, final contract documentation, and final payments.  Prepare all contractual information.
  • Quality Control:  Incorporate the contracted scope of work into final product, meeting all quality criteria as established by the contract documents and management, at the lowest reasonable delivered cost.  Supervise others to assure quality is maintained on all projects.
  • Safety and Security:  Understand and enforce safety and drug testing requirements and procedures.  Obtain OSHA certification.
  • Customer Service:  Serve as the Company representative when dealing with various owners, general contractors, trade contractors, subcontractors, vendors and internal customers.
  • Communication:  Can clearly articulate data, concepts and directions, both orally and in writing to all customers in a timely and organized fashion.  Very familiar with software applications including Microsoft Office Excel.  Teach skills to others.
  • Technical Knowledge:  Must make continuous efforts to keep abreast of technological advances and code requirements in the industry.  Capable of reviewing contracts and submit documents for codes and scope conformance.  Can develop a complete design-build proposal defining the complete fire protection scope of work.
  • Team Player and Manager:  Help, support and communicate with all Company employees understanding their actions set the standard.  Manage all projects and project teams assigned.  Coordinate the efforts of all members in respect to the requirements of the project and management to achieve all goals established for the project.  Maintain a positive attitude and 'sells' the Company at every opportunity
  • Follow and Enforce Company Policy:  Ensure that all employees adhere to all Company policies and procedures with particular attention paid to items that affect other employees.

Qualification Requirements

  • Education/Experience:  Degree or Certification in Engineering, Building Construction, Construction Management or equivalent field/engineering experience or with at least 10 years hands on experience on project management.  Experience is preferred in fire protection contracting and/or engineering.  Must obtain OSHA certification.  NICET certifications are encouraged.
  • Language Skills:  Ability to read, analyze and interpret contract documents including all disciplines of construction drawings and specifications.  Ability to write, plan, coordinate and make presentations to individuals and groups using all manners and methods.
  • Mathematical Skills:  Ability to work with and comprehend mathematical concepts including hydraulic calculations and project cost accounting and analysis.
  • Reasoning Ability:  Ability to teach and apply principles of logical thinking to a wide range of problems.  Ability to define problems, establish facts, draw valid conclusions and make sound recommendations.
  • Automation Skills:  Must be familiar with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, etc.) to be capable of creating, working with and modifying spreadsheets and databases for the monitoring of project performance, write project correspondence, price changes, prepare proposals, budgets, estimates and projections  Also familiar with accounting and project management software such as Viewpoint, MS Projects, Procore, etc.
